Leavy Lions vs Marshall Sixers match report

After having won the toss, Lions continued their of fielding first. Apart from the first over where the Sixers scored 16 runs that included 6 extras, thye never looked in control of the game. Lions kept putting pressue on the Sixers batting line-up with picking up wickets at regular intervals. Nivian Malik kept going at one end despite all the wickets and scored a quickfire 19 of 14 balls, he lost his wicket to a deceptive delivery by Sai Nukala and was caught on the square leg boundary. Tarun Sandhu tried really hard to up the ante but tight lines from Lions bowlers never let him cut loose, he was ultimately dismissed for 15 of 18 balls by Saptesh Sawant who was by far the best bowler of the night. Excellent spells by Saptesh Sawant (3-8-2), Sai Nukala (3-10-1) and the support of other bowlers Lions were able to able to restrict the Sixers for a paltry 111/9 in 15 overs.
Chasing a low score, Lions got of to a shaky start, losing the in form Sohil Suchde on the second ball of the innings for naught. He was picked up by Sixers's strike bolwer, Tarun Sandhu. After the wicket, the Lions became a little more cautious but soon Virdepak hit some delightful strokes to get momentum going. But, the momentum shift soon occured and the Lions were rocked back by two quick wickets of attacking Tejas Bhedi and Virdepak who was looking good. The wickets brought Sai Nukala and Ambar Garg, with not a lot of form under their belt, these rookies builld a really important partnership of 28 runs that set the tone for victory. Sai Nukala's dismissal (16 of 9 balls) brought the captain Saptesh Sawant to the crease. Ambar Garg (30 of 22 balls) continued where he had left from the previous partnership and along with Saptesh Sawant (27 of 14 balls) who was at his attacking best as always, saw the Lions home with an unbeaten 60 run partnership. Tarun Sandhu and Vikas Rajagopal where the best bowlers for Sixers.
Saptesh Sawant was declared the man of the match for his all-round performance.
Leavey Lions have finished their first half of the tournament and are in 4th place with 20 points. The groups for next half will be made after the final match of phase 1 on 13th March.
