Popovich Panthers vs Cromwell Champs match report

Dec 14, 2016 04:01 PM | Popovich Panthers won by 92 runs | Scorecard

The Popovich Panthers (PP) started their quest for a 3rd successive title against the Cromwell Champs (CC). The 2 teams are very familiar with each other having played 6 times in the last 2 seasons.
PP romped home to yet another convincing win to start their season with a 92 run victory.

Earlier in the evening, CC won the toss and elected to field first. Rookie Rohit Kumar playing his first game of the season was very impressive and he stuck early to get rid of the dangerous veteran Sushil Premjani (13 off 5 balls). Another rookie - Louis Arokiaraj (20 off 17), making his debut for the PP was superb as he took on the CC bowlers early in the game to smash a couple of powerful sixes over covers. PP skipper Tarun Sandhu, stroked his way to an aggressive 60 off just 28 balls which included 7 sixes to take control of the game in favor of PP. Another debutant for PP - Mukul Sagar, carried on the momentum by racing to 49* off just 24 balls. He was aided by veteran Hashir Malik (17* off 13). PP posted a formidable 198/4 in the allotted 15 overs. Tarun (60) and Mukul (49*) were the primary run makers for PP, while Rohit (1/21) was the only bowler from CC, who had an impact on the game.

Cromwell Champs innings started disastrously; they lost Rohit on the very first ball of the innings and some excellent bowling from Siddharth Thakur (3/12) ensured that CC never gained any momentum. Hamza Malik (1/21), got the all important scalp of CC skipper Suhas B Shekar, and then it was pretty much a lop sided game. Ankith Shashikanthreddy (31) and Nitin Ravi (13), provided some respectability to the CC total. PP used all their bowling resources (9 bowlers) to complete the innings as they wrapped up a solid win to kick off their 2016 Fall campaign. Good luck to CC for the rest of the tournament.

Next up PP will be facing their former teammate and MVP Gaurav Mathur and Rookie of the season - Navjot Singh of the Trojan Tigers. This primetime matchup should provide some exciting entertainment and is sure to be a high octane affair.
